The Trade of the Province is of late years greatly Decay'd the
Price of Tobacco for several years has been so low, tht the Makers
of it have been brought to the want of many of the Necessarys of
Life, & by their neglecting other things, & Trusting wholly to that,
in hopes of an Amendmt in its Value, They seem now almost
reduced to an Incapacity of carrying on any considerable Trade
Whatsoever. To prevent Illegal Trade, there are Officers appointed
in the several Districts of the Province, pursuant to the Acts of
Trade & Navigation. The number of Vessels belonging to this
Province are about Sixteen Sloops, Two Snows & one Ship, the
Number of Sea-faring Men are about 106; all the above-mention'd
except one Sloop & the two Snows are built in this Province.
There is One Iron-Work Settled or two or three more which are
Dated from Annapolis Febry 23d 1732/3.
