iv PREFACE.

section (if subsequent to the Code of 1888) is given at the top
of the section as re-enacted, so that its history can readily be
traced.

In the many instances where the Acts here codified were
passed in entire disregard of the direction of the Constitution,
which makes it the duty of the General Assembly to enact
laws " in articles and sections as the Code is arranged," they
are given appropriate places in some one of the articles in
sections properly numbered.

Of the one hundred and five articles in the Code of 1904,
the legislation of 1906 touches forty-seven. No changes what-
ever are made in the others, but no appropriate place can be
found in any of these one hundred and five articles for the
important subject of "Forestry," covered by chapter 294, and
hence a new article under that title is introduced. Pursuing
the alphabetical arrangement to which we have been so long
accustomed, it is numbered Article XXXIX A.

The whole body of the Public General Laws of Maryland
now in force will be found in the Code of 1904 and this
Supplement.

In an Appendix will be found references to the decisions of
the Court of Appeals in volumes 98, 99, 100, 101 and 102 of
the Maryland Reports construing articles and sections of the
Code. The references in the Code bring the decisions down
to volume 97 of the Reports.

JOHN PRENTISS POE.
August 22, 1906.
